Creating Environments and Props

Image
For the research of the house that the protagonist will live in, the initial idea was to bade the aesthetic of my hometown of Brixham, the architecture is old, and while there are efforts to upkeep it, the age of the building shows. i also looked at Designs that in Animation that reflect this aesthetic of building. I created a Floor plan for the building, so that the design of the building would remain consistent throughout the entire story. As if rooms moved about or changed design, they would lose their continuity and with it the the audiences suspension of disbelief. City Research: Below is some photographic references i took while on my trip to Japan in 2016 as inspiration for the environment locations. i like the neon palette and also its somewhat crowded nature. It is a nice stark contrast to the previous setting, so will work well to help differentiate the places and break up the acts of the story. Alley Way Designs I used a

Screenplay V.2.1

Below is the 2nd Version of the screenplay for the Story I have written with the working title, The Analog Kid. The Changes between version 1 and 2 are the following: - The script has been restructured following review and asl peer feedback. The script was lacking in focus, and also didn't communicate themes well. The new script has been rewritten with these in mind. - The Script now follows an industry standard layout. using correct terminology, layout and type font, to give a more professional look - Some of the dialogue was re-written, as it was considered unnatural and cheesy. Dialogue is now less direct and more "human" I am much happier with the new script, as it reads a lot better and looks more professional, thanks to my own critical analysis as well as peer feedback.

Designing Young Protagonist and Supporting Characters

Image
Now that we have come to final design for the main protagonist, it is time to create designs for the character when she is still only a young child. My aim with this design is to make it easily identifiable as still, the same character, so certain aspects of the design must stay the exact same. The key features of the character I identified were the hair, the colour of the hair and eyes, and the soft features. It wouldn't make sense for the character to have different coloured eyes, skin tone, or suddenly harsh features, as it would not add a sense of continuity. Once these features were identified, I created a design for the head of the character. One thing I am happy with is that the character remains the same, and is easily recognizable as the same character. Many of her features are softened and simplified to help sell the character as a very young version of the same character. The hairstyle and colour I kept the same to help with recognition. Once I was happy with

Additional Protagonist Designs and Concept Art

Image
I wanted to also create some additional designs and concept work for my Protagonist, to investigate different visual styles, additional details, alternate costumes, as well as just to help me gauge a better idea into this character's personality. I began with some digital paintings that border the line of stylised and realism. While this is generally good practice, I allowed me to see my character in alternate styles, to see if there should be any alterations in the character design. In one of the designs, I added glasses to see if this would add anything to the piece. While they are a good aesthetic look, they do not add much to the character, and in the story, the character will be involved with, they are not very practical, so they were ditched. Time Taken: 8 hours Time Taken: 5 hours I wanted to write a character bio to help flesh out the character's backstory, ideal and small details that will help make the character human. Not only was this good fun, but i

Protagonist Walk, Run Cycles and Animation tests

Image
Now that the character design was complete and was something that I was happy with, I decided that it was time to bring these characters to life, with walk cycles and test animations. I feel that these are not only important practice but also help to create a good feel for the personality of the character.  Above is the front plan for my character, I will be using it as a reference when creating the animations, to help create an animation with consistency.  To begin with, I wanted to create an animated walk cycle. While looking for some walk cycle references that I felt that fit the character, both in personality but also size and build, I couldn't find any reference involving heels, and couldn't create any of my own references at that point in time, I had to improvise and create the walk cycle without her shoes on. Above is the key frames test for the walk cycle, this was 9 frames running a 24fps. I was pretty happy with how it was coming along at this time so de

Protagonist Clothing Design (inc. Colour Theory)

Image
(all work done on this page is my own) Once the basic features of the main character were built, it was time to design her outfit. I began by creating a set of 8 different designs, ranging from ground, all the way to experimental and quirky. I wanted to create a wide range like this, as in the industry, the client will a broad range of options to select from. I created two types of outfit, the "client safe" approach, as well as creating some quirky and nonconventional ones, as the client may see the quirky designs that they hadn't previously thought about and actually like them more than the original idea. That being said there are still designs to choose from if they do not like the other designs with my own input into them. That being said, I actually did like the designs of my character that were more grounded and realistic. I chose the 3 favourites that I felt complimented the characters personality. I picked 3 and went back into them, cleaned up the
