Fundamentals of Character Design Character Design is a crucial element of when it comes to a characters likability, personality, and believability. I want to research the fundamentals of what makes an effective Character design. Shape plays a very important role in defining a character, the 3 most commonly used shapes that are used to build a characters personality and silhouette are squares, ovals, and triangles. Squares are often associated with stability, heaviness, and scale. In professional practice, these shapes are most common in masculine characters. Research: Antagonist Characters (Using culture to Influence Design)

For the Antagonist characters during the dream sequences, I decided to focus my attention on something that was a rapid departure from the protagonist, who will be largely Human-based if not entirely. When brainstorming ideas and concepts, I really enjoyed the idea of Japanese Mythology and wanted to combine that idea to create something unique. Keeping with the theme of Japan and the Shogun, I went and also researched Samurai. The Samurai would often create masks and armour that would be practical while also often resembling Animals and spirits. I thought that I may be able to combine these two ideas. I created two Moodboards, one for Japanese mythological creatures and the other for various samurai attire. The first mood board is a showcase of various interpretations of Japanese Myths and creatures within them. Why 2D? Research into Industry

A Keyframe from The legend of Korra, produced by Nickelodeon  Why have i chosen to do 2D Character design and Animation?  The answer is very simple. I love creating characters and just drawing in general. I come from an illustration background so by utilising 2D animation, it allows me to showcase my skills in the most effective way. 2D animation and designs are normally the fundamentals of all Animation, whether 2d, 3d, stop motion of CGI, it all begins at a basic 2D level, using illustration and research to create concept designs, mood boards, storyboard and Animatics.
