Research: Protagonist

The Main Character of my Story will have two different appearances. In the real world, she will be portrayed as a innocent child with BIG dreams, she will like to play with her toys and is quite energetic, keeping her mother on her toes at all time, she cares greatly for the people and animals around her, that will become apparent through her actions, she likes to stares at the big cities from her attic bedroom before going to bed every night. Below is a mood board that hopefully conveys the character that i am trying to showcase.

As for the mother Character, i think that it is important that she resembles her at least a little, so a similar hair colour, and maybe familiar looking faces. So to do this, i will create both characters with each other in mind, and design them at the same time.
Legend of Korra I Korra, Asami, Mako and Bolin in every season
As for continuity, it is important that the character is recognisable as the same character throughout the entire story. When designing the character, i will create mock-ups of the character and how she grows up, much like the mood board above. Things to keep in mind are the facial structure, the eyes, eyebrows and expressions.

As for designing the same character as an older person, i have come up with a mood board full of various ideas of what the character could look like. The characteristics of this character are that she is very independant, athletic, determined but also retains that youthful innocence. In addition to these character traits, in terms of her physical appearance, i like the idea of the character having a distinct hair or colour palette for the character, one idea i liked off the bat was either a red head or green hair. I have already created a redhead in a previous project involving character design, so i do not want to retrace the same steps as that project if possible so will try to avoid the red hair. Another way i felt that i could create a unique character was to give her powers. This will create a different fighting style that can be showcased during the dream sequence, it will also add different colours and lighting to the animation.

The Protagonist that appears in the dream sequence isn't actually a real character, it is an interpretation; an idealistic vision of what the little girls wants to be. i really want to showcase this idealistic nature, by giving the character a lot of crazy and distinct features in her visual appearance, while also creating a character that can emote and give us a sense of the character, even if she doesnt speak.
